airplane crash in buffalo and the safety issues with the regional carrier structure. it’s pretty terrifying to think that your entry-level pilot is only paid $21/hour.

FRONTLINE: the madoff affair. as usual, frontline manages to reveal an angle on the story that i never heard anywhere else.

FRONTLINE: black money. the us, the uk, saudi arabia, arms deals, and dirty money. the US is the only one who ends up looking good in all this.

FRONTLINE: sick around america. it’s so depressing hearing about health care in america. people literally dying from a lack of coverage.

FRONTLINE: inside the meltdown. full program for view. I actually wish they made the piece longer. I read some of the interview transcripts and they were pretty interesting too.

FRONTLINE: the hugo chavez show. this episode was so entertaining. chavez is such a nutter. it’s a shame south america has such useless political leadership.

The War on Drugs and scopolamine, the perfect drug (kottke.org). i highly recommend the rolling stone article. It points out a lot of the interesting facts about smugglers that I read about in the book Illicit and the failures of stopping meth mentioned in a related Frontline report.

FRONTLINE: the storm. just watched this report from 3 months after Katrina. I’m just flabbergasted at the stupidity. bush and company really managed to get just about everything wrong with FEMA.

FRONTLINE: Cheney’s Law: full video. as you can imagine, that was terrifying.

The best show on television returns on october 16th with a report entitled “Cheney’s Law”. really, the best show. they also have a sweet preview for the upcoming season.

“Frontline” Skewers Cheney. Was the bi-line on the cover of the Seattle Times this morning. Brief article about tonight’s Frontline special about Cheney entitled The Dark Side.

FRONTLINE: the meth epidemic. It’s pretty obvious I’m a big fan of Frontline but this piece was mindblowing. Based on a newspaper series done by the Oregonian, it shows how the “meth epidemic” spread from the west coast. This piece has it all, drugs, a mysterious nationwide patten of addiction, big stupid corporations getting in the way, and you finally get to find out what every happened to quaaludes.

visualize credit card debt. found this off lifehacker. it’s genuinely insane how much credit card debt costs if you carry a balance. Luckily for me, my parents burnt into my mind at a young age that having credit card debt was comparable to owning an adult video store. frontline actually has a pretty good special about the crazy innerworkings of the creditcard biz.
