comments

For the two people who supposedly subscribe to the comments feed, it seems it was broken for quite some time. It’s now fixed.

more ui tweaks

I had never that crazy about the “+” and date links being intermixed for each post on awardtour. It seemed a little confusing. So when I saw this blog yesterday I thought it a good idea to replace my “+” idea with a similar icon-set. I used the two free icon-sets I linked to yesterday to make a set for the site. I’m still not sure what color to make the icon background color. I keep switching between the standard orange, light gray, and a dark gray.

So some of you might have noticed that the other day I added a comment count icon to the side of every post which had comments. I did this so that you could pick out posts which had garnered comments but had fallen out of the “latest comments” list. I changed the comment icon to fit the new icons and it now doesn’t show the comment count in the icon but a mouse-over will tell you via a tooltip.

I also wanted to try keeping the running date on the page as I liked how it conveyed how much posting I was doing over time. I just couldn’t get it to look nice enough beside the icons. I think I might now cook up an icon set for dates and see how that looks.

Anyways, I posted this just to see if anyone had any comments on the change.

the golden suicides

When Theresa Duncan, 40, took her own life on July 10, followed a week later by her boyfriend, Jeremy Blake, 35, their friends were stunned and the press was fascinated: what had destroyed this glamorous couple, stars of New York’s multi-media art world, still madly in love after 12 years?

That’s the by-line from a rather dizzying article in this month’s Vanity Fair entitled The Golden Suicides. The article tells of the couples move to Los Angeles, failed movie deals, and Duncan’s paranoia about being watched and threatened by the Church of Scientology. Oddly, one of the last things Duncan did before killing herself was posting a quote on her blog about the need for humans to tell stories. Further, she seems to be blogging posthumously. She had left a post about the supernatural to be automatically posted in October, 3 months after her death, and an Editor’s note mentions that there is yet another post dated for New Year’s Eve.

Crazy.

Lokesh Dhakar. nice looking blog with some sweet looking infographics.

The Masterplan | The Morning After. a nice wordpress magazine-style theme

WordPress Plugin: Simple Tags. this plugin is fucking awesome. provides auto-completion for tags while writing posts, has great tag management, and adds “related posts” and “tag cloud” methods.

Wordpress Admin Dashboard replacement. the dashboard has been so cluttered since version 1 or something. this plugin replaces it with a iGoogle/netvibes style widget page.
