When Theresa Duncan, 40, took her own life on July 10, followed a week later by her boyfriend, Jeremy Blake, 35, their friends were stunned and the press was fascinated: what had destroyed this glamorous couple, stars of New York’s multi-media art world, still madly in love after 12 years?
That’s the by-line from a rather dizzying article in this month’s Vanity Fair entitled The Golden Suicides. The article tells of the couples move to Los Angeles, failed movie deals, and Duncan’s paranoia about being watched and threatened by the Church of Scientology. Oddly, one of the last things Duncan did before killing herself was posting a quote on her blog about the need for humans to tell stories. Further, she seems to be blogging posthumously. She had left a post about the supernatural to be automatically posted in October, 3 months after her death, and an Editor’s note mentions that there is yet another post dated for New Year’s Eve.
