That’s what every building looks like BEFORE it’s finished. What Beijing has spun with that building is the civil engineering analog of: “it’s a feature not a bug.”
if that’s there philosophy then i’m sure the buildings embedded systems will be running on Windows CE.
That’d be consistent with the way H&dM rolls. Allianz Arena is the same deal except that IT was actually finished. I can picture the control room in Beijing: a room full of old, odd cell phones, mostly clunky Pocket PCs, each beeping, ringing, and flashing; every now and then a Jay-Z ringtone interrupts the otherwise chaotic, irratic chime of “System Status: OK”.
Why can’t we get anything this ingenious in Toronto - let alone in all of Canada?!
What about the oh-soo-fugly OCAD building?
how is the OCAD building “fugly”? it’s a fucking school of art and design.
and don’t forget the ROM expansion.
The ROM expansion and the OCAD building are awesome. Its nice to see something different in Toronto.
i agree.
You guys aren’t serious, are you? Wow. These days it seems anything and everything avant-garde is automatically brilliant. I don’t care what anyone says, the ‘tabletop’ is a horror.
It’s a horror because… the OCAD building should have looked like what exactly? OCAD looks like an art school. Shocking.
i fucking love those buildings. without them, toronto would look like…vancouver.
yeah, what the fuck do you expect the ontario college of art and design to look like? would you prefer it looks like a hummel sculpture or something? actually, that would be pretty amazing. but perhaps a bit too ‘avant-garde’.

(You know, in some ways, I miss the pride of Torontonians.) After staring at photographs of the OCAD building while crossing my eyes ever so slightly, I realized that it *does* looks like an art school. It’s what an art school, every art school, ought to look like. In fact, I expect the gold record on Voyager 3 to include a photograph of *it* linked to the words: “Art School”.
the pride of torontonians? huh?
