I realize this is like 2 years after the fact but I bought an AirPort Express today. I contemplated spending $100 for a 802.11g router for the last 2 weeks (slash 2 years) since I’ve had no need for a new router and I could get a perfectly good linksys G router for $40 off amazon. Anyways, I decided that the speakers on my macbook were just too lo-fi and buying this thing actually adds value to my underused stereo. I totally would have held out if I could upgrade to a 802.11n router but I, unfortunately, have a Core Duo and not a Core 2 Duo. Doh! I’ll post any feedback once I actually get the thing shipped to me.
as a proud owner of a core 2 duo, what would be the benefits of the 802.11n router?
it’s 5 times faster then 802.11g though this probably won’t make much difference since there’s probably no chance in hell the connection to your house is anywhere near that fast.
it would probably also be useful if you bought an appleTV appliance to hook up your computer to your tv.
n ‘goes’ farther as well. it should make a big difference if/when streaming video.
It’s handy if you want to network a shared hard drive, because the airport handles that, and the ‘n’ would make the connection to the hard drive quite fast.
though it appears there’s a new caveat as it appears some vpn devices aren’t working over it.
