the long winters
I really don’t mention the long winters nearly enough. well now there’s even more reason to mention them. Their soon to be released LP, Putting the Days to Bed, has made it’s way on to the intertron and has magically ended up on my ipod. It’s pretty upbeat for John Roderick who’s lyrics have been known to be a little… how do you say… depressing.

This album follows up the Ultimatum EP with more big rich arrangements of pop-rock gobbledy-goop gold. I would probably defer to Roderick’s material when it’s more paired down, like this acoustic set on kexp, because his voice is so damn enthralling.

I spent a horrible amount of time trying to decide which songs to post. After far too much consideration I decided on three songs. And after a quick perusal on the hype machine I found that only one of them has already hit the blog-o-sphere. Pushover is your standard Long Winters fare as it’s catchy as hell. Next up is one of the lower tempo track from the album, Hindsight. The song has got some great lyrics but the absolute prize line is…

Are you still training for the big race, by hoping the runners will die.

Last up is (It’s A) Departure. It’s pure unadulterated feel good power pop which is bound to get even the stiffest head bobbling. So, without further ado…

the long winters - pushover [HERE] [or HERE]
the long winters - pushover (acoustic) [HERE]
the long winters - hindsight [MP3]
the long winters - (it’s a) departure [MP3]

And stay tuned, as this week I’ll be posting new music by the hidden cameras, headlights, and some unreleased bootlegs of Jason Collett live in Seattle.
